Beetles Threaten Million-Acre Oregon Timber Reserve
An invasion of mountain pine beetle kills a billion board feet of lodgepole pine across a million acres in Northeastern Oregon, roughly the size of Delaware. Foresters say the dead timber could be salvage costly, with estimates up to 133 million dollars over 21 years, while fire suppression costs might reach 200 million.
