Eastern crash blamed on crew and controllers in storm
The National Transportation Safety Board faulted Eastern Airlines Flight 66 and air traffic controllers for failing to foresee dangers of a major thunderstorm at Kennedy. Wind shear and runway choice contributed to the June 24 crash killing 113 aboard. NTSB urged swift FAA action, crew wind awareness, instrument monitoring, and runway procedures reforms.
