High Point Council Candidates Favor Partisan Elections
In answer to a poll, eight of 11 candidates favored maintaining partisan city elections with Democrats and Republicans, while three backed eliminating party labels. Opinions on county police contracts varied, with five preferring city control and three favoring county involvement. Five candidates did not respond.

Drive Under Way To Back Symphony
The 1971-72 High Point chapter of the North Carolina Symphony Society will coordinate a state wide membership drive in May to raise 2850 for two local NC Symphony appearances. Chapter leaders are Mrs. Lynch Jr., Mrs. Rochelle, and Mrs. Yokely.

High Point Native Dies in Vietnam Mine Explosion
Tony Ray Bingham 23 formerly of High Point died in Vietnam April 27 in a mine blast during patrol. He had been in Vietnam since Sept 1970. Survived by widow Gail Kenson Bingham and his family with several siblings and relatives. Body to be returned to Calvin C. Orrell Liberty Road Chapel for funeral arrangements.

Stiles Wins Central Division Toastmasters Contest
Roland W. Stiles of Alma Desk Co. sales and marketing won first in the Toastmasters Central Division serious speaking contest in Greensboro. His club Piedmont Toastmasters of High Point has dominated, and a Charlotte state title could lead to an eight state finals appearance in St. Petersburg, Fla. in June. Stiles, 26, a 1967 Appalachian State graduate, is a Sunday school teacher living with his wife Mary Thompson and their four year old son at 1606 Bolingbrook Rd.

Tax Assessment Ratio To Be Fixed By Board
