Limited ability of tests to detect hidden heart disease
A UC Los Angeles study with 1652 normal-appearing individuals found 52 developed heart disease and 46 showed potential disease within 30 months, while 13 died. Of 80 with initial suspicion, 30 became symptom free, and 11 of 165 labeled heart cases later showed normal hearts. Overall coronary deaths numbered 26 among detected or developed cases.
