Unions Plan Joint Action Against Unemployment

Three large unions the United Mine Workers AFL Teamsters and CIO Steelworkers outlined a united approach to unemployment and the Taft Hartley Act at a luncheon. Leaders John L. Army Jury To Deliberate Dickenson Case Monday

A military court will begin deliberations Monday on Corporal Edward S Dickenson a 23 year old POW from Cracker's Neck Virginia accused of collaborating with the enemy while a prisoner in Korea and informing on comrades. Closing arguments depicted him as both morally flawed and mentally unsettled with prosecutors urging a verdict of guilt under a new military code provision.

Japanese Reds Demonstrate On May Day

About 400000 Japanese May Day demonstrators filled Tokyo streets under Red banners to protest rearmament. Police in steel helmets clashed briefly, while American chiefs remained at home by order. Speakers in a downtown park preceded a five column march denouncing Prime Minister Yoshida and calling for an end to hydrogen bomb tests in the Pacific.

Land swap probe eyed for Crabtree State Park land deal
