Negroes Seek Separate Nation and POW Status
Delegates at a Detroit Black convention drafted a declaration of independence and a constitution for a proposed Negro nation to be created in five states. They discussed renouncing U.S. citizenship to become citizens of the new country and forming a government in captivity with support from Negroes seeking citizenship elsewhere. The gathering, held at a West Side church, drew fifty delegates and 100 observers from multiple cities and featured attendees in African tribal dress.

At the Farm With a World of Quiet Pet Characters
The narrator reflects on farm animals including an aging burro in Granada and a longing to find the drake a new mate for Easter. He notes muskrats at a pond, a bold gray squirrel, and two missing cats named Co-Cat and Jake, while saying the animals ignore world affairs and live simply in their unchanging, personal realm.
