Russian forces under Marshal Zhukov advance into the Carpathians toward Hungary and Romania after routing Czernowitz defenders. Marshal Konev’s Second Army sits along the Prut River frontier, mopping up holdouts as the eastern front tightens.
President Roosevelt announced he would let the soldier ballot measure become law at midnight though calling it wholly inadequate for ensuring service members can vote.
