Raleigh March 29 An attempt to solve alcohol policy by allowing local option votes on beer and wine may arise next week. A House finance subcommittee studied four local option bills and must report by Monday. The biennial session may extend into the following week as many issues remain unsettled.
Attorney General Tom Clark hailed President Truman promise against Communism comparing it to the Monroe Doctrine. He told Democrats at a Jackson Day dinner in Des Moines that the two party system would allow reversal of the last election and praised Truman as a great president.
The bulletin lists temperature and rainfall for major cotton growing regions. Data shows high and low readings with several stations recording rainfall, including New York Philadelphia Portland Richmond and San Francisco.

Moran said no offer was made and that the union would continue negotiations if U S conciliators arranged further talks.
The United Public Workers of America announced plans to fight government loyalty purge actions as part of broader attacks on organized workers. The campaign will mobilize through 470 locals, newspaper ads, and radio discussions, following a two day CIO meeting in Washington.
In Moscow the foreign ministers agreed to set dates to decide key German future issues and to pursue a four power deal on repatriating all war prisoners by 1948. British, Soviet, and allied officials discussed revising the alliance and forming a provisional German government while Marshall urged progress in two focused sessions next week.
Senator Taft urged speeding Senate hearings on the House approved tax cut bill saying taxes should not be delayed. He suggested the GOP policy committee review the issue while Millikin favors delaying hearings until House and Senate agree on budget cuts. Millikin indicated no date for hearings yet.
Rep Mundt urges a personal conference between Stalin and Truman to resolve differences between Communist Russia and Democratic powers. He backs a $400 million aid package for Greece and Turkey as insufficient edge against communism and warns against delaying action. Mundt names Iran Iraq Korea China and future flashpoints and argues Moscow must be the place to stem aggressive communism.
In Nashville on March 29 a light plane crashed into a city bus carrying seven passengers. Pilot Frank E. Wimberly and Dennis Hall, both of Nashville, were killed. Nearby patrolmen reported passengers fled through the bus door in the impact with no injuries to them.

Raleigh March 29 Despite a veto by the general assembly tagger 15 000 000 in amendments by the advisory nation commission record collections from the income tax leave the state's substantially in balance governor Cherry reported today The swelled income tax returns will enable the state to wind up the current fiscal year with 6 570 664 more than was anticipated when the budget commission made its estimates last December The governor estimated general fund for the coming biennium would total 186 712 600 or 2 184 100 more than last December s estimate and with the 6 570 664 surplus would enable the state to meet the general fund appropriations of 192 759 150 for the biennium with a bare 651 500 to spare General fund revenue this fiscal year now is expected to total 113 804 000 as compared with last December s prediction of 99 804 000 The state began the year with a surplus of 50 149 170 making the total available this year 163 953 170 Regular operating expenses will total 70 450 250 and 48 432 256 has been appropriated for permanent improvements 7 000 000 for an emergency salary bonus 30 000 000 bg a post war reserve fund and 1 500 000 is earmarked for the pacenas of Camp Butner

Critics warn of huge wage losses and economic impact while the search for 111 Centralia victims continues.
Mary Catherine Reardon, a 14 year old junior high student, is acquitted by a St. Louis juvenile court of murder in the death of her father J Vincent Reardon. The jury of seven women and five men delivered the verdict after a trial dramatized by a courtroom ripple of hand claps.
