Three unmasked young men robbed E. R. Stevenson at his filling station near the Lexington highway shortly after midnight. They escaped in a stolen 1929 Ford coach later found missing by W. T. Deaton of High Point. Stevenson identified the vehicle and offered to recognize the robbers, as police sought further clues.

Generalissimo Francisco Franco assumed personal command of insurgent armies at the Lerida front near Hendaye. Reports describe deserted Lerida, smoke over the city, air raids, and a major push planned after recent gains. In Barcelona, Defense Minister Indalecio Prieto announced 10,000 volunteers enlisted in five days and dispatched to the front.

Mrs Blanche Armfield Pickens 67 widow of Rupert T. Pickens Sr died at a local hospital this morning at six o'clock from complications after a two week old fall that caused a broken hip. She had suffered ill health since last June after a paralytic stroke. She was the eldest daughter of the late Wyatt J Armfield and Jennie Britt Armfield, born February 18 1871 at Sapona Side. She was educated at Salem Academy Winston Salem finishing with high honors in 1887. She married Mr Pickens in November 1899.
Planes from the blue fleet reportedly destroy Hilo in a theoretical raid while the aircraft carrier Lexington suffers tonsillitis and months of care, forcing her to withdraw from the mid Pacific exercise. The mock attack occurred between 4 20 and 4 30 p m with defense units failing to respond in time.
Henry W. Kronheimer, 78, prominent local journalist and editor, died at a local hospital at 9 this morning after weeks of illness. Born December 18, 1857 in Richmond, Virginia, he lived in High Point 39 years, earlier in Atlanta and Winston-Salem where he edited the Twin City Sentinel. Surviving are his widow Lena Stalnaker, siblings, a stepson G. R. Stalnaker, and a stepdaughter Lillian R. Woodward. Funeral at Sechrest Funeral Home Thursday at 4 with Rev. H Norwood Bowne officiating. interment Oakwood Memorial Park.

Governor A B Chandler of Kentucky asked the eight court to review a Kentucky Court of Appeals decision that the proposed constitutional amendment to abolish child labor is not before the states for ratification. The Kentucky case follows a Supreme Court decision to review similar litigation by Kansas State Senators. Kansas Supreme Court had ruled they could act on the amendment.
