Bloom Fights Plan to Cover Washington Monument in Granite
Washington congressman Sol Bloom denounces a proposal by the Washington National Monument Society to clad the 558 foot shaft in fine white granite. He calls it ridiculous, sacrilegious, and says the monument should be left as is. The plan would replace the lower 150 feet and later cover the entire structure.
