HANG BARCELONA March 26 Thousands of civilians were rushed to the western border of Catalonia today to build government rear guard fortifications.
William A. Devin Jr., a Hickory lawyer and son of a superior court justice, will manage the senatorial campaign of Frank Hancock. Hancock, the district’s representative, announced the appointment after conferring with Devin who is praised for character, ability, and diligence.
The house roads committee approved a bill authorizing 484 million dollars for highway work in 1940 and 1941. It would provide 238 million dollars annually for Federal aid to highway construction and grade crossing elimination, plus 8 million to replenish a 10 million dollar revolving fund for flood and natural damage road reconstruction.

Faulkner said Jack Morgan fifteen admitted he shot his foster father Henry A Morgan because threatened to beat me to death The youth held in jail with Morgan s widow and a lodger in their farm home would be charged with murder The sheriff quoted Morgan as saying that after the threat he crept into the elder Morgan s bedroom early Monday and fired at the sleeping man.
