Raleigh March 27 A sharp rise in North Carolina fire losses for February over 1932 totals. The month saw losses exceed 400000 with 985000 compared to 574000 last year while fires rose only slightly from 224 to 228. Major losses included Iredell furniture plant 419000 Winston Salem 200000 Tarboro tobacco reamery 67000 and Statesville store 32000.

A total of 1136 applications arrived by special delivery and air mail compared with 600 in 1931 and 900 last year. Applicants came from across the United States and many foreign countries as the graduate school office processed thousands of recommendations and transcripts.
