Liquor Vote Bill Nears Approval in North Carolina
RALEIGH AP A bill to let any North Carolina municipality hold an election on opening ABC liquor stores was expected to win final Senate approval and move to the House. Sponsored by Sen. Jack White it passed the Senate 33 to 17 on a key second reading. The measure allows an ABC election if 25 percent of voters sign a petition and aims to remove political maneuvering from liquor decisions while counties already have similar rights. A separate bill proposing a state foundation on alcohol rehabilitation was also introduced in the Senate.
