Joseph Spencer Stewart, a 70 year old Georgia educator known for raising school standards in the state, died yesterday of a heart attack in Athens. He devoted his life to improving public education.
In New York on March 26 the tariff bill sparks a bipartisan debate as trial preparations for Andrew Donaldson Kirwan proceed. Jurors are questioned for murder on the high seas aboard the U S President Garfield, with potential jurors excused for bias against the death penalty or previous affiliations. Goldsboro March 26 Judge D H Bland of Goldsboro announced he is withdrawing from the race for judge of the fourth district. He had been supported by Wayne County for the seat left vacant by Judge A Daniels who said he would retire at the end of the term.
The Agricultural Adjustment Administration reports 1938 farm income at 1 158 000 000 dollars higher than the previous year, a gain of 55 percent. The report highlights a strong year for farmers despite ongoing adjustments and market changes.

Greenville S C March 26 Dick Forrest Phillips remained in the county jail as officers investigated the slaying of Buster Keller 25 of Greer Keller was shot and killed last night at a gasoline filling station and tourist camp three miles west of Greer Officers said they had no details on a fight said to precede the shooting
