Dulles Sees Summit Price Too High for Talks

Nine Die In Explosion And Crash Of Airliner

A Braniff DC7C crashed shortly after takeoff from Miami en route to Panama. Nine were killed and 15 survived many badly hurt. Ground observers saw engine fire and the craft broke in two before landing. Rescue crews faced tough conditions as flames raged and traffic clogged approaches.

Pilot Bails Out Near Elizabeth City N C Navy identifies pilot

The Navy confirmed Lt. (jg) E. L. Woodruff 24 Conway Ark bailed out safely after his jet lost power while attempting to land at a Currituck County airstrip. The aircraft crashed in a wood area and burned, and a Navy helicopter returned Woodruff to Oceana Virginia.
