Trusted Man Sought In Slayings

Birmingham police hunt a highly educated suspect described as a trusted individual who abducted 11 year old Timothy King and killed him. King's body was found in a roadside ditch near Detroit with evidence of binding and possible sexual assault. The slayings mark a series of seven child murders in Oakland County over 14 months, with connections to other missing children in the northern suburbs.

Army suit over tank accident ends in damages denial

Federal Court of Claims ruled the United States cannot be held liable for Allen Aaron Jackson's injuries after a tank ran over him during Army training at Ft. Riley in 1974. The court cited no binding enlistment promise to provide mechanic training or to shield from duty and noted no authority to award damages. Jackson, now severely disabled, may appeal.

Carter administration proposes 20 cent raise to minimum wage

The Carter administration urged raising the minimum wage from 2.30 to 2.50 an hour by July 1 with indexing to a percentage of average manufacturing wages. It aims to start at 50 percent of such wages and adjust annually, seeking to end irregular wage jumps. AFL-CIO wants 3.00 now with 60 percent indexing starting January 1978.
