Southern Bell rate hike would raise state phone bill
The proposed 26.17 million rate increase would cost North Carolina state government about 682 505 more dollars per year. Department of Administration official Frank Leatherman told the Utilities Commission that current budgets through July 1973 cannot fund the rise without either service cuts or a budget adjustment by the Advisory Budget Commission. State government spends about 4.25 million annually on telephone service, with roughly 3 million going to Southern Bell.
