Two earthquakes were recorded by Georgetown University seismograph on March 24. The first quake began at 12:45 a m and lasted until 1:30 a m with a pronounced character about 1600 miles from Washington. The second quake started about 6 o clock and peaked between 6:13 and 6:15 as a distant quake.

Manaos dispatch reports 104 lives lost when the Brazilian steamer Paes De Carvalho was destroyed by fire on the Amazon River. The ship was en route from Manaos to Torihura, with the disaster occurring March 22 near Coury.

Georgia Convicts Captured in Asheville by Buncombe Men

Leonard Dean Carl Johnson and Ben Ward three convicts who escaped from a Georgia chain gang were captured by Buncombe county sheriff's deputies after a daylong chase stretching into Tennessee. One man faced four more years of sentence, another a few weeks, and the third several months. Deputies crossed into Tennessee to seize the trio at Dandridge and return them to Asheville.

Tire hurled from car strikes driver in Fresno incident
