Police Chief Shore Presses Police Role in Union Strike

Thomasville officials report Chief of Police Paul Shore told union leaders at 7 p.m. that police would enforce city and state law to maintain order. The meeting included Sheriff W. G. Fritts and union representatives who read a prepared statement urging cooperation and rights protection while promising lawful conduct and avoidance of trouble.

Acting director named in Pakistan death system

Acting director Hal Wayne died at Memorial hospital in Karachi after an illness of one day. He was the acting director of the U S Technical Cooperation Administration in Pakistan. He succeeded Dr Claude Hutchison who returned to the United States following health problems.

Jaycee Jollies Shatter Attendance Records at Junior High

The Jaycee Jollies of 1952 set a new attendance record for a four night run at the Junior High School Auditorium. Director Nick Lawrence announced a total attendance of 41,100 figures, with strong crowds from Students Night and packed seats Thursday through Saturday, 1952 standing room only. The show, praised as superb, continues a 1947 started run with cumulative attendance reaching about 16,100 by 1952.

Ex-Resident of High Point Dies in Ohio

David Ridge 21 of Chillicothe Ohio died in an Army hospital in Kentucky after a short illness and an operation. Born in High Point December 1930 he was a son of Clifton E and Claudia Kirk Ridge. Survived by parents two brothers Raymond and Jimmy and sister Doris all of Chillicothe. Paternal grandparents Mr and Mrs C Bridge of High Point. Body to arrive in the city Tuesday. Funeral arrangements not yet made.

In Goshen Indiana firefighters freed 15 month old Stephen Bort Schuck when a jacket zipper became stuck pinching his skin. Parents could not free him and the fire department responded to the emergency.

Ballantyne Succumbs to Heart Attack at 66

Robert H. Ballantyne 66 of 910 Jones Street died Saturday at 6 pm from a heart attack. Born in Hamilton Scotland in 1886 he came to the United States at 21 and worked with Johns Manville. Survived by widow Grace Thornton Ballantyne a daughter Elizabeth Henrick a son Commander Robert D. Ballantyne U S N Portsmouth VA six grandchildren five brothers and a sister. Christian Science service Monday at 2 pm Sechrest Funeral Home with burial in a local cemetery.

Fire destroys Taylor Street apartment injuring resident

Louise McDonald, a Black woman of 404 Taylor Street, escaped a blaze that gutted a two room upstairs apartment. She suffered second and third degree burns over most of her body and was hospitalized as investigators worked to determine the fire’s unknown origin. Fire Chief E K Infram said neighbors alerted the emergency call and firefighters contained the flames with only smoke and water damage to the rest of the building.

Mason Brown Dies From Heart Attack

Mason Edgar Brown 58 of 202 Edgeworth Apartments died Saturday afternoon at 3 45 in High Point Memorial Hospital from a heart attack, after relocation from Mooresville. Born June 8 1894 in Troutmans to Charles Henry Brown and Carrie Bell Cavin Brown, he lived in High Point since 1935 and worked as a salesman for Virginia Carolina Chemical Corp. He belonged to First Presbyterian Church and various Masonic bodies including Acacia Lodge 674 AF and AM. Survived by wife Annie Charles Waugh, two sons Mason E. Brown Jr of Dallas and Charles H. Brown of High Point, three daughters Mrs Wayne C Garner of Fort Worth, Mrs R E Caldwell of Mooresville, Mrs William Walker Jr of High Point, and four grandchildren. Mother and a brother F H Brown of Lenoir also survive. Funeral arrangements pending at Sechrest’s Funeral Home.
