About 125 union members in Morehead City and 350 in Wilmington began the action at 8 am with no picket lines. Name Change Favored by House Committee on Education

RALEIGH AP A recommended new name for North Carolina State College the University of North Carolina system won approval from the House Committee on Higher Education. The proposal North Carolina State the University of North Carolina also passed the Senate committee. The vote was a voice tally with little division, led by Rep Sneed High. Some alumni groups oppose the change urging North Carolina State University at the University of North Carolina. The action sets up a potential floor battle when the higher education package moves forward. The Greens boro branch name change to include Woman was rejected despite arguments for essential unity of the system. Rep I C Crawford stated the outcome seemed preordained.
