Patricia Hearst, 22, found guilty by a 12 jurors panel of armed bank robbery in San Francisco. Judge Oliver J. Ronald Reagan faced pressure to frame his attack on President Ford around race and Howard Callaway during a North Carolina campaign visit. A flyer quoting Sen. Edward Brooke and referencing busing prompted Reagan’s staff to order its withdrawal after it circulated at a rally, with Raleigh attorney Tom Ellis agreeing to remove it.
Presidential hopeful George C. Wallace spoke to about 1500 in War Memorial Auditorium Saturday night denouncing Jimmy Carter for ethics violations and urging tax reform. He praised military strength and linked with VFW members in High Point while his supporters circulated documents claiming Carter backed Wallace in 1972.
