Tom Alderman Sykes spoke to Central megga congregation on making Christianity the way of life. He argued life must mirror Jesus with real kingdom zeal and willingness to risk all, noting disciples must break ground and live boldly in faith.
Funeral services for Mrs. J. R. Gordon who died at her Jamestown home were held at Deep River Friends church on Sunday at 4 o'clock conducted by Rev. Joseph Peele and Rev. C. Kennyrl y. A large gathering attended as the choir sang Have Thine Own Way Lord and Abide With Me. Pallbearers included Bethel Thrift Dr. Odis Thrift Franklin Wheeler Eugene Wheeler Gurney Grantham and David Grantham with flower bearers listed. Interment followed in Deep River cemetery.
Funeral services for Miss Mary Beasley of Francisco Stokes county were held at her home Friday afternoon. She died at her home after a pneumonia illness last Wednesday night. The services were led by Rev Brown Cocram and Rev Samuel Hill. She was the daughter of W M Beasley and Susan Beasley and survived by brothers and sisters J W Beasley and B L A V Beasley of Francisco and S A Beasley, Mrs W D Pace of West Virginia and J W Beasley of Virginia.
The Central Friends Brotherhood class invites all men to a recreation gathering in the annex Tuesday evening at 7 30. There will be singing and games for everyone and all men are urged to attend.

Earned commissions start at about 29 dollars weekly.
The Palm Sunday procession at St Edward’s Catholic Church featured a blessed palm distribution led by Father Murphy. Children led the crowd scattering palms while singing Hosanna, followed by altar boys, incense, and torch-bearers in a pageant mirroring Christ’s entry into Jerusalem.
Mrs. Lillian Lampell of High Point trading as Worths filed a voluntary bankruptcy petition in federal district court. Debts totaled 13,418.62 with assets of 20,080.74 including 12,500 in real estate and 3,080 in open accounts.

Mary Hammond 75 a respected colored citizen died at her home Saturday night. Born in Randolph County she lived most of her life in this city. Funeral at Calvary Baptist Church tomorrow at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. J. E. Melton and Rev. W. R. Robbins. Survived by four daughters Ada Evans Trinity Beatrice Rankin Minor Gray Dolly Glenn two sons a sister a son in law 25 grandchildren seven great grandchildren.
Firefighters from No 1 extinguished a blaze at the Carolina Cotton Batting company on Tate street yesterday afternoon. Several bales of cotton burned outside the building but the flames were contained to prevent further damage to the structure or additional bales.

William Jones aged 83 died at his home in De Ridder Louisiana after a long illness. A Jamestown native, he spent most of his life in the county, worked with the Richmond and Danville railroad, farmed, moved to De Ridder seven years ago, and was survived by his widow a daughter three grandchildren and several relatives. Funeral services are set at Hickory Grave Methodist Protestant Church with burial in the church cemetery.
J. C. Wilson of 825 Fifth street displayed an oversized six ounce liver from a year old bantam hen weighing 1 pound 14 ounces. He preserved the abnormal organ in alcohol and exhibited it as a nature freak.
Reverend C F Mr Barnes of North Park Baptist Church preached on the theme of the justice of God. He cited Second Peter 2 4 and cited examples from the flood Sodom and Gomorrah Egypt and the fate of the firstborn to illustrate that God will deal justice to the living as in ages past.
Pastor John E. All argues in a Sunday sermon at the Seventh-day Adventist church that the ten commandments describe God's character and set the standard of right and wrong. He states humanity lost God likeness through sin and that the law remains the perfect guide reflecting God's nature and love.

Charles C Muse former city council member and local magistrate and plumber announces he will run for Guilford County Commissioner in the Democratic primary. Joe Hoffman also seeks the seat. Muse has lived in the area for about 42 years and is well known in High Point.
Gifford Newell a 15 year old of 315 English street was injured yesterday afternoon when he fell about 25 feet while sliding on a wire between two trees near Guilford High School. BE M Hoke 611 Chestnut street summoned aid and Yows ambulance brought him to Guilford General hospital where his broken arm is being treated.
