The district music festival in Greensboro will feature the choir as they aim to qualify for the State Festival in Winston-Salem. The band travels to North Carolina College in Durham for the district festival, with the State Festival set for Greensboro at A and T College. The Dramatics Club earned a festival berth after a strong Greensboro performance. The National Honor Society elected officers James Clark as president Hattie Kittrell as vice president Jewel Parker secretary Lois Ware assistant secretary and Richard Chandler treasurer. Donnie Carter named to the 1961 62 All State Football Team as other All State basketball and football honorees were celebrated at the NC High School Athletic Conference State Basketball Tournament at A and T College. A Penn faculty basketball game against Halifax Virginia drew crowds and sympathy was extended to two teachers after losses in the week.

The National Inventors Council urged 32 inventions for military use including a puncture proof tire to meet or exceed current tire wear and ride. Other requests seek steerable parachutes for space capsules, a permanent vehicle lubricant, and a re entry decelerator for spacecraft.
