Opinions differ on constitution proposed by NC voters
Attorney General Dennis G. Brummitt voiced nine objections to North Carolina's proposed new constitution at Rocky Mount arguing it lacks a definite statement of powers and would expand taxation. Judge John J. Parker urged modernization of taxation to boost agriculture home ownership forests and support for widows and orphans, noting changes since 1868. Parker helped draft the measure as a commission member two years ago.
