Reuben B. Robertson 85, famed Champion Papers Inc. leader and honorary chairman, was found unconscious in Asheville after a stroke. Transferred to a local hospital around 11 a.m., he was described as in fair condition by son Dr. Logan T. Robertson.
Governor Dan Moore urged stronger higher education for Black residents at a Chapel Hill conference. He cited Dr. William Archie on a cycle of poverty in schooling and colleges, calling for urgent policy answers to lift the state’s Black education system.
