Shore strand of twenty seven killer whales shocks Florida coast
In St Petersburg Florida fishermen counted 27 stranded killer whales along gulf beaches south of the city. Weighing up to two tons each the animals ranged 15 to 35 feet long. Three were captured alive and towed to a dock where a 15 foot long 3,000 pounder was hoisted out by fifty men. One whale was drowned by a fisherman using a motorboat. The whales had not appeared in the area for 35 years and likely came ashore to chase sharks others followed.
