Debris and fires mark a fierce midnight bombing of London and surrounding areas by Nazi planes. Heavily damaged two major districts as 13 raiders were shot down. total raid force 150 to 200 aircraft with Britain reporting losses en route home.
Allied air forces blasted Cassino with 1400 tons of bombs in under a square mile as Lt General Ira C. Eaker ordered a massive strike. Ground troops moved in as bombardment ceased, aiming to crush German resistance blocking the Fifth Army advance toward Rome near Naples.

Quintuplets three girls and two boys were born July 11 at home to Vallota and Franco Diligenti.
