Market Opens Steady But Small Drop
New York cotton prices opened barely steady as July and December slipped. futures fell about 10 to 16 points from the prior close amid easy Liverpool cables and last week’s covering. Some foreign buying appearances supported new crop months while shorts reduced activity, with prices recovering slightly before the first hour ended. Reports of unseasonably cold weather in the south spurred modest buying, and ex foreign demand appeared mainly for price fixing and further covering.
