Powell Plans Return to Harlem Amid Contempt Warrant
Adam Clayton Powell announced plans to return to New York from the Bahamas next Sunday to preach at Abyssinian Baptist Church despite a civil contempt warrant. He said Harlem residents would not let him be kept from the streets, and he compared his return to Palm Sunday with Jesus entering Jerusalem. Comedian Dick Gregory joined the news conference praising Powell's leadership.
