Negro Dies After Gas Chamber Admits Rape Conviction
Raleigh reported Otis Ragland a 50 year old Black man died in the state's gas chamber after admitting rape of a Martin county farm woman last November. Ragland had escaped from a Martin county prison camp and fled to New Jersey before returning to the area where Mrs. Floyd Moore was attacked. He was previously sentenced in Granville county in 1945 to five to seven years for larceny. He died 13 minutes after the gas began.
