Plans for High Point participation in the regional American Business club convention in North and South Carolina Georgia and Florida are taking shape. A banquet at the Sheraton Hotel will feature T Wingate Andrews and Ralph W. Slate with entertainment by Greensboro groups. Approximately 200 banquet attendees and 100 plus dancers are expected with 50 delegates from four states. A Greensboro King Cotton hotel meeting morning sessions precede the luncheon by the Greensboro chapter at the Country club. The club also changed its regular meetings to Thursdays.

Merger Talks At High Point Country and Commercial Clubs
A joint meeting of officers and directors will be held at the downtown club next Tuesday at 7 30 PM to discuss consolidating the High Point Country and Commercial clubs into one institution. The plan would liquidate downtown club property, transfer funds to expand the country club, and grant downtown stockholders commensurate holdings and full membership in the merged club. Some oppose the merger, arguing the downtown club’s identity would be lost after 380 years of prominence.

William Loflin dies at 76 in High Point
William Loflin aged 76 died at his home 1806 Lyndon Street after a week long illness. Born December 6, 1852 in Randolph County he was a son of Franklin and Nancy Leflin and longtime resident connected with Marsh Furniture. He leaves a son Woody Leflin of Lawrence Kansas two daughters Susie and Belle Loflin of High Point and two brothers Robert and Clark Loflin. Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Mt Gilead M E church Randolph County with interment in the church cemetery.

Funeral services were held at Trinity Baptist Church for Luther Howard George the small son of Mr and Mrs C L George who died at home near Allen Jay school early Tuesday morning. Rev J H Haynes conducted the services with pallbearers Clemon Ridge Hubbard Ridge Ralph Hiatt and Reitzel Hiatt and flower bearers Ada Crumby Louise Crumby Virginia Smith Helen Smith. Interment followed in Trinity Cemetery.
