Train wreck near Pierron leaves one dead three hurt
In Highland Illinois Pennsylvania mail and express train No 13 derailed near Pierron seven miles east of Highland early today. Engineer Charles Hacket was killed and three other crewmen were severely injured with no names released. The double header was en route from the east to St Louis with mail express and some passengers. Officials awaited an investigation into causes.

Worker Burns In Boiling Vat At Local Plant
Henry Martin, a black employee, fell into a vat of boiling water at Consolidated Panel and Veneer Co this morning around 11. He was rescued by a bystander and rushed to High Point hospital in critical condition with severe burns all over the body.
