Solar energy set to become cheapest home heating by 1980 study
A University of New Mexico computer analysis for the House Senate Joint Economic Committee finds solar heating cheaper than gas or oil by 1980 in many northern states and by 1985 across more of the nation. It notes current costs to install about 1350 for new homes and 4200 for older homes, with costs depending on federal gas price policy and rising fuel prices. Senator Hubert Humphrey supports temporary solar installation subsidies.
