South Vietnam officials announced a volunteer force termed the North Vietnam Liberation Army will be formed to invade the north. Rep elect Charles Griffin defeated Charles Evers by 2 to 1 in a special election to fill the Mississippi district seat left by John Bell Williams. Griffin, 41, a longtime aide, will face a Democratic primary June 4 for a full term. Evers plans to run again. Unofficial totals showed Griffin with 85,039 to Evers 42,684 from 296 of 308 precincts.
