Senate orders study on gasoline allocation in N Carolina
The North Carolina Senate approved a resolution to form a six member Senate and six member House advisory committee to study gasoline allocation and distribution in the state. Sen. Eddie Knox said NC is not receiving its fair share under federal mandates and the panel would report findings by March 25. The action follows concerns over the voluntary buying plan and aims to propose legislation to ensure equitable distribution and reduced consumption. The House deferred action on gambling and tax bills, with the property tax measure amended to exempt household furniture.

Housing Bill Passes U S Senate
The Senate approved a 10.4 billion housing bill by 76 to 11, extending subsidy programs to aid the poor and empowering cities with block grants. It rewrites laws back to the 1980s, rejects Nixon’s request to end major subsidies, and moves to the House for action in about two months. Senator Sparkman hailed it as a major step for urban policy.
