Booker Williams Dodges Death Chair Amid Last Minute Repieve
In Raleigh North Carolina March 1 AP Robert Lumpkin was executed at 1955 for the murder of Rowland Police Chief Rodgers. Booker Williams received a reprieve from Governor McLean after a late conference with Commissioner Link. Williams confessed to aiding the crime and obtaining the pistol. Lumpkin was the 88th death chair victim since 1910. The reprieve runs to April 1 unless changed.
