Woman Convicted for Carrying Concealed Weapon in Municipal Court
Ann Meredith, a white woman long seen as a troublemaker by police, was convicted in municipal court for carrying a concealed weapon and assault on Jim Meredith. Judge Kirkman sentenced her to eight months in county jail for the pistol and four more months for the assault after her arrest yesterday by Officer Friddie. A pistol was found in her coat pocket as she tried to conceal it with a handkerchief. Charles Nelson, white, was found guilty of passing a worthless check and fined twenty five dollars plus costs or road labor. the check related to bond for a Black man released on a traffic charge, and Nelson testified he believed funds existed in the Asheboro bank to cover it. He was arrested in Asheboro and brought back for trial. Only two cases were tried today and disposed of quickly by the city police court judge.
