American forces aided by French troops conducted three raids opposite Lorraine with two simultaneous assaults lasting four hours. Units breached the first German trench, reached the second line after advancing about 600 yards, and remained 45 minutes inside the hostile trench system.
Fall River Mass March 11 five thousand mill operatives in the city were idle at noon because 324 union firemen struck after demands for shorter hours and closed shops were rejected by the manufacturers. Four of seven mills of the American Printing company and the plants of American Linen and American Thread companies were closed.
Washington March 11 Live poultry shipments may use parcel post after March if properly prepared for mailing. The Post Office Department said chicks cannot be insured or sent C O D and cannot be sent to destinations over a 72 hour mailing distance.

A Washington dispatch reported by Maichi of Oska says the United States demands Japan guarantee the withdrawal of troops from Siberia once the Russian crisis ends.
Washington officials in close touch with the situation say no remand has been made by the United States and Japan. They note such a demand would impugn Japan's good faith which the United States has already recognized. If Japanese troops reach Siberia, withdrawal would be discussed at the peace conference.
London reports Leon Trotzky dismissed as Bolshevik foreign minister by Premier Lenin over a quarrel on the German peace terms. Trotzky argued against forced treaties and urged continued resistance, while Lenin favored ratification and execution of the treaty.
William Duke son of H H Duke Sr of Rocky Mount in the United States aviation service will soon be in France. Duke enlisted about eight months ago and trained at San Antonio and Waco Texas. If he arrives safely he will be Rocky Mounts first aviator in France.

Major George L. Peterson of the Camp Jackson quartermaster staff is sought in Raleigh North Carolina on embezzlement charges of National Guard funds. He plans to depart Columbia today or tomorrow morning to face trial and is expected to return voluntarily rather than await a deputy.
