Tar Heel Escapee Held In Baltimore
A 38 year old Negro fugitive from Gates County Prison Farm is held by Baltimore police after a fingerprint check linked him to an escape. Willie Gray Jeffreys alias James Harris was nabbed at his home and ice cream shop, and he attempted to retrieve about 1000 to 2000 dollars hidden there before being arrested. Police recovered the cash and plan to send it to North Carolina if he is extradited.

Prisoner Admits 77 Burglaries and Robberies
Shelton L. Beasley, 28, serving time in Tulare County jail for drunken driving and an escape attempt, admitted to Sheriff Sandy Robinson that he participated in 77 burglaries and armed robberies in North Carolina and Virginia. He claimed 40 were in North Carolina and 3 in Virginia, with 16 others in the state tied to a gang, plus two in the District of Columbia and 14 in Virginia by the gang. He cited a $2,000 tire theft in Mialene City North Carolina and an $80 burglary of the Newhope post office, with crimes dated 1953 1954. Beasley arrived in California four months ago.
