In a homicide case, a junk dealer and his brother split their partnership after a knife fight. The brother Raymond Knight admitted firing five bullets at 47 year old David Knight, who was found dead in an upstairs bathroom. He is jailed awaiting a murder hearing next week.
Raleigh reports that Taft and Eisenhower factions pressed closer lines as three North Carolina district conventions met. The Seventh District met at Elizabethtown, the Twelfth at Franklin, and the Sixth at Graham, with other districts to convene next week.
A Southern Railway streamliner struck a car at a grade crossing near Morganton killing Christine Murray 25 of Route 6 Morganton. She worked at the state hospital and was alone in the car. Joe Brown Shook 12 said he saw the wreck from a bridge about 300 yards away and that the car was barely moving as the driver tried to start it.

Sasser said Byrnes advised transparency and pledged full confidence in his force.
Authorities say a Soviet agent may have photographed the diary of General Walter Grow along with other papers during a 1951 Frankfurt meeting. The diary allegedly included urgent warlike entries and discussions of top American military plans, prompting questions about further document losses and official responses.
