Deaf mute held in slaying of woman

Johnnie D. Knight Jr., a 29 year old deaf mute, confessed by note exchange to killing Mrs Myra Brown Manning near Bailey after resisting his advances. Sheriff Womble said Knight would face murder charges and was held at Central Prison in Raleigh. Manning, mother of four, died from a neck wound near a Boy Scout Camp four miles south.
