House Debates Prohibition Enforcement Again in Congress
Washington March 6 AP The House spent hours discussing prohibition enforcement. Treasury official Andrews and Wayne Wheeler urged a separate prohibition bureau. Andrews put annual enforcement near 25 million dollars, Wheeler said bootlegger fines nearly pay the cost. Representative Blanton accused 400 open Baltimore saloons and criticized federal judges for enforcement failures. Griffin's attempts to revive the issue were blocked by Rep Treadway who argued excessive propaganda on the topic.
