A 19-year-old man released from a mental health facility fatally stabbed four strangers and wounded several others across Brooklyn streets in a ten minute attack. Police restrained him and he was hospitalized in a straitjacket.
Senator Mundt predicts quick passage of a bill to force the American communist party to sever ties with Moscow. The measure would require registration of communists and front groups, label literature, bar officials from federal jobs, and criminalize passing classified information to subversives. House action anticipated by Rep Nixon.
Senator McMahon warns that hydrogen weapons could let an attacking power strike first while Congress debates a formal declaration. Manchester March 6 Dr. Herman N Sander testified in his murder trial that when he injected air into the veins of Mrs Abbie Borroto there was no life response and he did not intend to kill her He said he believed she died of cancer and noted it on the death certificate He described finding her dead and recalling he did not know what he intended to do with the syringe indicating only that he tried to enter the vein and there was no blood on her arm
The Associated Press report tallies at least 24 fatalities across North Carolina from a series of incidents over the weekend. Causes include car crashes, a tractor accident, a train collision, a house fire, a boating accident, and a fatal shooting among others, with victims ranging in age from infants to adults and multiple communities named.
King George VI and Queen Elizabeth led a dawn procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster for the state opening of Parliament. Guards, scarlet robes, and the crown highlighted a ceremony marking the Labor governments policy focus with Liberal and Conservative leaders eyeing next moves.
In Indianapolis two insane youths aged 20 and 25 escaped from Central State Hospital after Dooley broke through a door and seized keys. Guard William Elders, 60, was stabbed in the chest and beaten, found by attendant Leslie Andrey, as Dooley and Davis fled the hospital grounds on a high wire fence. Mervyn Rae identified the fugitives and noted a third inmate stayed behind.
Army Lieutenant testified that Mrs Yvette Madsen slapped him during a party dispute over Brooklyn and southern speech a short time before her husband Lt Andrew Madsen was slain. Prosecutors say she fired after returning home and wrote a note while waiting in the dark.
In Catawba county, 34 people were arrested during a weekend ABC enforcement sweep led by county and city police. Clyde Anderosa Bolick, a sheriff hopeful in the Democratic primary, was jailed on liquor law violations noted at under 300 dollars bond. Also detained were Mrs Bolick and two Bolick employees. A two month span of whiskey purchases was cited, with the operation aided by the state ABC board and local agencies.
Western allies blocked a trainload of 198 Germans expelled from Polish territory into Western Germany. Poland aims to move up to 250,000 refugees, doubling earlier estimates, while West German officials say they cannot cope with the influx. The train halted at Heilbrnstadt inside the Soviet zone as Soviet authorities sought to push it into the British zone, which London resisted unless names match the 25,000-relatives list.
Gastonia report states thieves broke into a fish market safe over the weekend and took 1700 dollars in cash. Government bonds remained untouched. Owner Guy Ladd says the money was to fund a truck drivers payroll. Entry was through a side door with the safe door jimmied Saturday night.
