False Alarm Causes Near Miss at Main and Washington

At 7 pm the Northside station fire truck responding to a box 47 false alarm on Green Street narrowly avoided a collision with a car on the wrong side of the street. Arthur Hayworth swerved the vehicle to the extreme right to prevent an accident as bystanders urged enforcement of the right of way ordinance. No arrests reported.

Died Suddenly at Local Plant

A. M. Hornady, an elderly resident, collapsed and died at 7 o'clock this morning at the Giant Furniture company where he worked. He had been in ill health but went to the plant intending to work. The death was caused by a heart ailment, and funeral arrangements were not set as of this afternoon.

Two Brothers Killings On Border Spark Fatal Duel

Ashland Ky March 6 Milford Hubbard and Gerry Hubbard were killed and Willard Hubbard wounded in a gun fight at Pounce Va on the Kentucky Virginia border. The three men, said to be intoxicated, quarrelled. Milford fought Gerry with a rifle, then Milford and Willard exchanged shots with Milford fatally wounded and Willard seriously wounded after Willard fired twice.

Bank Exec Shot Himself After Bank Collapse In Newport News

Marvel D Holloway president of the Vassar Abbott company faced arrest for stealing 15000 from the Colonial bank which failed after excessive loans. He killed himself with a 32 caliber revolver in his dining room as his wife found him. Life insurance totaling 79000 assigned to the bank added to the collapse context. Frank I Partlett cashier and Holloway were also jailed on related charges.
