Burgin Pursues Local Building Votes In Legislature
Lexington March 5 Representative W O Burgin of Davidson county has introduced bills to require a public vote before erecting a county courthouse in Davidson or a Lexington city hall. He says the move is not to block necessary work but to place the decision before voters. The current law allows county commissioners to order courthouse construction via grand jury action. Burgin asserts the bills go beyond merely blocking such orders and see no danger in the proposal.
