Stadium project taxes may mislead says NC Stadium Authority

North Carolina Stadium Authority executive director Joe Matthews says projected tax costs for Triad Stadium Raceway can mislead depending on phrasing. Guilford County Commissioner Percy Sears opposes a bond referendum, citing a 6 to 8 cent rise per 100 valuation to cover debt. Matthews argues legal limits require stating the maximum tax rate for operations and debt service, and notes bonds must align with leases and major sporting events, with revenue from franchises reducing county costs.
