Charleston reports a grocery chain will offer pickup and delivery food service for needy families in Beaufort and Jasper counties South Carolina. Joseph Newton Jr president of Piggly-Wiggly Carolina Co confirmed the plan and said a food truck or pickup delivery option is under study. A pilot program of free food stamps for the needy began Monday in the two counties. Hazel Frazier leader of Welfare Rights questioned the reach of the program noting about 180 households may benefit while some residents say they cannot obtain stamps they were promised.
