Governor George Romney of Michigan announces he will not seek the 1964 GOP nomination. He reiterates he will focus on Michigan's issues and not be drafted for the presidency, despite earlier statements and a report by the Detroit Free Press.
TOPEKA Kansas AP reports a boy saying his mother has been sick and he does not know how many days have passed since she spoke to them as authorities locate the stricken family.
Sheriff reports two dead in a five room house south of town while Sgt Henry F. Haefeker of Forbes Air Force Base, his wife Alice age 37, and their son Billy 5 are found deceased. Only surviving father George 6 and the family are under observation in Forbes Hospital as investigators determine natural causes or an undetermined death.
In 1913 workers spent 40 percent of pay on essentials while now 25 percent. It took 75 hours to earn a suit then but 20 hours now. A pound of pork chops costs a third as much as before. The middle class rose with pensions, savings, homes, cars, television, and credit. Willard Wirtz predicts further gains as machines and workforce expand.

An American missionary Elwood Jacobsen of Foreston Minnesota and a Filipino colleague were executed by a firing squad north of Saigon in front of their families after their car was ambushed. A Vietnamese driver in a separate car was also killed. The men had worked for the Summer Linguistic Institute studying tribal languages and had been in Viet Nam about six months.
TOKYO AP dispatch reports Communist China charging that leaders who reject Maoist theory that the United States is a paper tiger are cowardly and muddled. The attack targets Khrushchev, with Red Flag calling those who fear the enemy and refuse victory as reformists or capitulationists, not revolutionaries.
