Three young people die in a high speed crash when a car struck a tractor truck at North Main Street and Lexington Avenue. Elizabeth Voorhees, Reid Abbott, and James Floyd, students at High Point College, were killed. Driver William Smith and passenger Bernard Green were injured.
Sen Connally D Tex, chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, urged a firm stance with the Soviet and called for Russia to withdraw all troops from Iran. Clinard drove on the wrong side of Randolph street into a truck driven by George Turner. Only Reid was injured. investigation credited to Constable Buck Kennedy and Patrolman Fred Boyd.

In Bloomington two bodies were found at the bottom of a sludge pit in an abandoned stone mill. Russell Koontz a 43 year old Empire Stone Co. executive and Phyllis Coleman a 32 year old creamery employee were bound gagged and slain. Koontz was struck on the head with a heavy instrument and Coleman strangled with wire or cord. Police pumped water from the pit as investigations continued.
The House backs up on action amid controversy over price controls for housing and a $600 million subsidy to spur construction. Expect two more days of work as other bills await, including aid to China and pension plans, with senate action uncertain and hearings planned on Britain loan and minimum wage boosts.

The Durham plant will open at 6 30 a m ending a strike that lasted almost five months the longest strike involving a comparable number of people in the state's industrial history. The mill makes pillow cases sheets and sheeting.
In Herford Germany on March 2 troops rounded up 2000 Germans in Brunswick for questioning in black market operations. After raids the streets were strewn with goods discarded by violators.
