Firemen Save Property From Major High Street Blaze
Earl N. Phillips praises four fire companies for saving about 200 000 dollars of his goods as a two story vacant building and the Lock Knit hosiery structure burned on High Street. Fire crews from four units used 13 000 feet of hose battling the blaze fed by March winds. A second vacant building owned by Wrenn-Columbia Furniture was destroyed but firemen prevented spread. Chief B K said long flames driven by the west wind tested their efforts and kept windows intact to avoid water damage. A full loss tally and age survey are pending.
